We have just come in from the field where we have been black lighting and getting eaten alive by the biggest mosquitoes I have EVER SEEN!!
Earlier in the day we managed to catch handfuls of Garter Snakes Thamnophis sirtalis and a couple of little Red-bellied Snakes Storeria occipitomaculata occipitomaculata. More fun tomorrow!

That little red snake looks like the one I have found sunning itself in our mulch much to my husband's dismay. LOL...
Michelle - Well if it is the same species you can assure him that it is totally harmless and very gentle. The one I am holding in the picture was completely mellow and didn't make any attempt to bite, all the snakes we caught were equally obliging.
