SKYWATCH FRIDAY (Cloudgate)

In 2005 a new sculpture by English artist Anish Kapoor was placed in Grant Park, Chicago. Known affectionately by Chicagoans as 'The Bean' its actual title is Cloud Gate because of its wonderful reflective images of the sky.

This amazing work of art is 66 feet long and 33 feet high and, just like the sky, it looks different every day.

I'm sure the Bean has its critics but I think it's neat. It looks awfully clean...has me wondering if they have little men climb on it when no one's looking to polish it.

I never get tired of seeing the bean in any picture. Especially not in skywatch series. Love it.

Great photos of a most interesting object. In Adelaide we only have two reflective ball, one on top of theother and not very large at that.
The scale of this is tremendous, certainly a lovely bean. I feel the scale makes the sculpture. People are dwarfed like ants walking under it.
Thank you for sharing this.

Migs cfi fan - It is a pretty cool sculpture, it seems very popular.

Bobbie - A lot of visitors who come to Chicago make a point of visiting it, as you can see from the crowds underneath.

The 7msn - Actually I have not heard any critisism about it, its about the only structure in Chicago I can say that about. It is amazingly shiny isn't it? And it doesn't have any visible seams or joins in it either!

Photo cache - It is a very pleasing piece, most people seem to enjoy it.

Bobbie in Hawaii - It is a pretty ingenious design and well worth seeing.

PJ - Thanks! It is a very popular attraction.

Tckk - It is pretty cool. I can't imagine coming up with that design concept.

Louise - That is what delights me about it is that it is constantly changing.

Michelle Wassell - Thanks for dropping by.

Arija - I agree, the scale definitely adds to the drama of the piece.

The Bean is a truly amazing work of art. I love how it reflects people, landscape and sky all at the same time, as if its it's own little mini world only reflecting our own.

This was a clever idea to use as your Sky Watch photo :)

I'm late getting around. Wow..I would love to have some kind of gazing ball in my yard as I spent so much time looking skyward. Perfect for SW Celeste...

2sweetnsaxy - No worries, I totally understand, it is very easy to get behind with blogging :) Anyway sounds as though you have been busy with your jury duty.

Laughing Orca Ranch - It is a wonderful piece and such a simple idea, it does amaze me how it is so clean and shiny all year round. I guess some one must sneak out in the middle of the night and polish it ! ;)

Rambling Woods - Thank you. I am late responding to people too - sometimes life gets in the way of this blogging:)
