BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

This morning when I was getting ready for work the Weather Channel kindly informed me it was -17 degrees outside with a wind chill of -33 degrees. Oh whoopee I am going to freeze on my five minute walk to work! But my one consolation as I put on the dozens of layers of clothes required to step outside was that this was a great photo 'op' and all from the comfort of my own front room! This is Lake Michigan steaming, although the lake is frozen it is still much warmer than the air temperature, hence the steam.

And this was the ice on the inside of my windows this morning. (yes, I did say the inside :) ) It looks so pretty with the morning sunlight shining through it.

Update - It is now 4pm and I think I shall have to run outside in my bikini as we have just reached the giddy heights of zero degrees for the first time in fourty-eight hours. Positively balmy!!

Beautiful views of the lake Celeste. I am hoping that the lake effect snow machine will soon be turned off...

I love your humor over the cold temperatures! Those window ice shots are magic! To think a frozen lake is warmer than the air is quite a thought. I live in winter wonderland as well, but today got to be 28F, pretty warm if you ask me. Wonderful images!

The mountain ranges of ice on your window are very interesting. I have seen many ice flowers in my time but these miniature vulcanos leave me quite bemused. Ice crystals grow in hexagonal patters... I suppose I had better ask the Prof. for an explanation. He just had a look and thought that the great temperature difference between the extreme cold on the outside of the pane and the heated room had grown sharp peaked crystals which then due to the warmth of the room had slightly melted and rounded the peaks.
I am also quite taken by the armospheric distortion of the sun!
Your blog was quite an adventure today!

You are having a heat wave, eh? LOL.... you need to show a photography of you running out there in your bikini! hehehe....
Beautiful photos and I am not a fan of cold. NOPE!
But then, I live in the heart of the Rockies... makes no sense, does it? Silly me!
Keep warm!

OH. WOW! I love all of this. The icy scene in the second photo is just breathtaking. (And when you DID go outside, it probably did take your breath away!) The icy windows with sunrise color are incredible. I love the texture in them.

Gttyup - I will try and keep warm although some days I have so many layers of clothes on I can barely move!

Ramblingwoods - Sorry for the snow Michelle, you get so much more than us being on that side of the lakes.

Tammie Lee - I would give anything for the temperatures here to get up to 28 degrees right now! How sad is that?!

Steffi - Oh yes it is certainly cold! I am glad that your daughter enjoyed her trip to Chicago.

Arija - Thanks for the info about the ice crystals. I had often wondered about their unconventional shape - now I know! Please say thanks to the Prof.

Michele - Its a heatwave alright! The sight of me in a bikini is something no one needs to see!! :)

Louise - Thanks. Yes the cold certainly takes my breath away, it feels like my lungs are cringing down in the bottom of my chest cavity!! :)
